Forming an LLC in Michigan

Michigan limited liability companies are formed, on average, in five business days. The state does, however, offer expedited filing of just one business day for an extra fee.

Name Identifiers and Abbreviations

The name of the Michigan limited liability company must end with one of the following words or abbreviations:

• LLC
• L.L.C.
• LC
• L.C.
• Limited Liability Company

Operating Agreement

An Operating Agreement helps to protect your company’s limited liability status and prevents your company from being run by default rules created by the state. Although Michigan does not mandate all LLCs to have an Operating Agreement, it is highly recommended that you have one.

Additional Filings

Depending on the nature of your business, some additional filings could be necessary to complete the proper set-up of your LLC.
