If you, like us, watched Kier Starmer’s speech at the Labour conference earlier in the week, you are probably just as concerned. With many distracted by Starmer’s sausage gaffe, wealth creators and business owners will have had a keen eye and ear on any key tax announcements. But there were none. As Conservative leadership contender Robery Jenrick said, “This was the speech of a Prime Minister at the end of his five-year term, not three months in”, followed by “behind all the rhetoric there was no substance”, and we absolutely have to agree.
Where was the vital information on taxation plans? Where was the reassurance to non-doms and wealth creators in the UK that they are not going to be thrown to the lions to plug the so-called black hole in finances? This is not the leadership we needed but it is the leadership we have, and many are taking matters into their own hands to ensure their hard-earned wealth is not whittled away. We truly hope the government can ‘build a Britain to last’, but without the wealth creators behind them, it will be a long journey ahead.
